Horse Show Packing Checklist

Before anything goes in the trailer

Confirm the conditions first. Requirements vary by venue, governing body, destination, and horse, so use the official prize list and your professionals as the final authority.

Plans and paperwork

Classes, ride times, stabling, and arrival window confirmed Venue address, trailer entrance, parking, and contact numbers saved Weather and footing conditions reviewed Required identification, health, vaccination, and travel documents checked Insurance and emergency contact details available Feed, medication, and care instructions confirmed with the right professionals

Make the list horse-specific.

A day ship, an overnight show, and an interstate trip are three different packing jobs. Remove what does not apply and add the items your horse relies on.

For the horse

Feed, water, and daily care

Hay plus an appropriate buffer for the trip Pre-measured feed and supplements with clear labels Water, buckets, and any familiar water plan Veterinarian-directed medications and written instructions Feed tubs, hay nets or bags, and bucket hangers Stall card and emergency contact information

Grooming and horse clothing

Grooming kit, towels, hoof pick, and mane or tail supplies Weather-appropriate sheets, blankets, cooler, and spare Halter, lead ropes, chain if normally and safely used, and spare Shipping boots, wraps, bell boots, or other usual travel protection Bedding and stall equipment if not supplied by the venue Manure fork, broom, muck tub, and cleanup supplies if needed

The riding setup

Do one complete assembly check.

Put the full competition setup together at home. A small missing part is much easier to solve before the trailer leaves.
